SEEKING 1-2 STUDIO MATES ~*~*~ FOR MAY 1
@ THE MILL in SHELBURNE FALLS https://www.themillatshelburnefalls.com/
STUDIO SPECS & PERKS
• we have our own private, ADA compliant restroom (!)
• ground floor location, accessible ramp out front & free parking right by main
entrance. loading is easy
• hardwood floors, beautiful windows with deep sills, a very spacious & light-filled
hall for us to stretch into...it’s really wide and could be used as a flexible work
area, waiting lounge, whatever. our neighbors would enjoy it, too
• janitorial sink just around the corner on the same floor
• a decent pair of speakers already @ the studio, plus warm lighting, tea station,
a lounge corner, and easily removable sheet/hook situation for media projection
• low foot traffic, one of the quieter buildings. once in awhile there’s an event or
talk down the hall at https://www.thepermacultureplace.org/
• easy access to programming & community @ the mill, outdoor spaces &
seasonal markets, beautiful trail by the water, raven bookstore
• walking distance to food co-op, galleries, cafes, local grocery store, other
bookstores, post office, etc ~ just across the bridge from downtown shelburne
falls
• the mill was formerly a knife factory so maybe a little haunted in a way that
we’d all enjoy discovering together :-)
RENT
$825, wi-fi + utilities + parking included
year lease with 1 name on it (I’m not currently on the lease, would prefer transferring to someone else)
rent split evenly between 3 people: $275 per person
• current split: $360 / $465 (i’m on the lower end, would need my rent to go down or
stay the same)
context ~
my current studio mates are in the middle of a big life transition, unexpectedly moving
out of town in pursuit of higher ed programs. they’ll be missed & i wasn’t anticipating a
search like this for awhile. we moved into the space in october and i’d like to stay for at
least a year! this is a highly coveted location & openings don’t appear often.
i’m an expressive arts educator/somatics practitioner & this is where i’m starting to see
clients. i also use the space for my personal art practice, mainly working with clay here
(firing work next door @ the handle factory, no big kilns in our space). my workflow is
pretty slow at the moment & i keep my area tidy. you don’t have to worry about clay
dust.
i’ve put a lot of time & labor into the room and am hoping to fill it with people who value
the following things:
• keeping a shared calendar
• maintaining a clean, organized, welcoming space
• respect for separate “zones” within the studio with some built-in overlap
• financial transparency: a willingness to split rent in a way that feels accessible/based
on income
• intentional, clear communication
• transparency around covid safety, general care/willingness to check in
** 6 month (minimum) commitment strongly preferred
if you’re a woodworker, metalworker, or 3D artist who makes a lot of noise with heavy
equipment — love that! we may not be compatible, though.
similarly, if your work involves toxic materials, finishes, or heavy fumes, this may not be
the right space for you.
looking for people who are low noise and low mess who can easily contain their stuff !
slight preference for 2D artists. no bands please <3
it would also be difficult for DIY tattooers to fly under the radar here, unfortunately
ideal dream scenario:
joining forces with other cultural workers or healing practitioners (whatever that means
to you) who could use a creative space. could be the seedlings of a mini collective,
long-term! if your work involves seeing clients in person or virtually, we may be able to
schedule around each other, especially if that aspect of your life is part-time or flexible.
my 1:1 sessions are 2 hours long & require privacy ~
i would love to co-create a vibe that is mutually supportive and maybe even fun 🤠
i’m a part-time caregiver outside of my budding private practice, and my work can be
emotionally heavy. i super value direct communication and clear boundaries for this
reason! & crave an intentional space where we might share ideas & resources &
warmth.
i’m down to make friends & down to respect your solo time, too ~
small/medium doggies welcome so long as they’re mellow & friendly
